The Nishita Kaal, or the midnight period, is considered the most powerful time for Shiva Puja and meditation.

Time: 12:09 AM to 01:01 AM (Night of Feb 15 / Early Feb 16).

Duration: Approximately 51–52 minutes.

Four Prahar Puja Timings

Breaking the Fast (Parana)

To gain the full benefits of the Vrat, break your fast after sunrise on the following day while the Chaturdashi Tithi is still active.

Auspicious Moments: 06:59 AM to 03:24 PM on Monday, February 16.

You can CHECK local timings and Mmuhurats using the Drik Panchang .

HOW TO OBSERVE MAHA SHIVRATI VRAT/UPAVAS

(MAHA SHIVARATRI—2026//--Puja Vidhi, Auspicious Puja Time, Shivratri Rituals, Vrat/Upavas. Ratri Jagaran, Vrat/Upavas Paran, etc.)

Observing Maha Shivaratri involves a combination of physical discipline and spiritual focus. Here is a concise guide to the essential rituals:

1. PREPARATION & FASTING

Morning Ritual: Wake up early (ideally during Brahma Muhurta), take a ritual bath, and wear clean clothes—white is traditionally preferred.

Sankalp: Take a formal pledge (Sankalp) to observe the fast with sincerity and devotion.

The Fast: You can choose a strict Nirjala fast (no water or food) or a Phalhaar fast (consuming fruits, milk, and water). Avoid grains, onions, garlic, and non-vegetarian food.

2. PUJA & OFFERINGS

Abhishekam: Bathe the Shiva Lingam with water, milk, honey, curd, and ghee.

Sacred Offerings: Offer Bilva (Bel) leaves, which are considered very dear to Lord Shiva. Other offerings include flowers, incense, and lamps (diyas).

Mantra Chanting: Continuously chant "Om Namah Shivaya" throughout the day and night to maintain a meditative state.

3.RATRI-JAGARAN ( The Night Vigil )

Stay Awake: A key tradition is staying awake all night (Jagran) to meditate and participate in prayers.

FOUR PRAHARS -- For a deeper practice, perform puja during the four phases of the night (approximately every 3 hours starting from 6:00 PM).

AVOID DISTRACTIONS ---  Use the night for reflection, listening to bhajans, or reading the  Shiva Purana rather than casual entertainment.

4. PARAN/VRAT/UPAVAS BHANGA ( Breaking the Fast )

The fast is traditionally broken the following morning after sunrise and after performing a final morning prayer.
